What happened at the first workshop

The first session, “Inovație prin realitate extinsă” (Innovation through extended reality), took place on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, also at the Technology Transfer Centre, and drew more than 100 participants. They were able to try the equipment directly — virtual reality headsets — and to see how digital twins work: virtual models of real equipment and processes, used for simulation and optimisation. As the local press reported, one of the students summed up the experience by saying it was incredible how it feels to wear VR goggles.

Anyone who missed the first session has a second chance on 26 October, in the same format, with hands-on access to the equipment.

What the laboratory runs on

Living Lab VR@UO works with Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3S headsets and Magic Leap 2, high-performance graphics workstations, holograms and simulation and modelling platforms. The team — around 30 students and academic staff, coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Adriana Grava together with Prof. Dr. Eng. Habil. Cristian Grava — has completed 96 virtual, augmented and extended reality projects to date, in engineering, education, heritage, tourism and technology transfer.

These include 3D virtual tours of Oradea’s heritage, produced together with Visit Oradea and APTOR, educational holograms, and an immersive electrical-laboratory system awarded the bronze medal at EuroInvent 2026.

Why we are flagging it

Digitalization is one of CIDD’s research directions, and immersive technologies touch on questions that concern us directly: how public institutions and heritage reach their audiences, the accessibility of cultural experiences, and digital research methods. The workshop is a good opportunity for the centre’s members and doctoral students to see what infrastructure already exists within the university and to explore interdisciplinary collaborations.

The team’s projects and tutorials for building interactive lessons are available at virtual.uoradea.ro.
